IDUBE SARMC NATIONAL QUALIFIER 22/23 AUGUST

Birel drivers dominate three of the four classes

Following a very successful Vereeniging National, Birel drivers continued to show off their form at the Idube raceway (Pietermaritzburg). The Rotax series produced some excellent racing with Birel drivers featuring strongly in all classes.

Morgan MccollMini Max was the first class of the day. Castrol Toyota driver Morgan Mccoll had a near perfect day aboard his Birel. He took three heat wins out of four, with fellow Birel driver Dewald Brummer taking the last final win after an accident in final one caused him to retire. Brummer still leads the overall standings ahead of McColl.

Junior Max was a very tough affair; however 2009 Junior Rok Champion Aston Hare kept a level head and a consistent pace to win three of the four heats. Raoul Owens and Liam Venter showed very impressive pace with Owens taking heat one only to be penalized by the officials. The Junior Max championship remains wide open with Hare, Owens and Venter all in contention.Aston Hare

Chad Van BeurdenMax Challenge was dominated by Chad Van Beurden aboard his Birel. He followed the form of McColl and Hare by taking three of the four heat wins. Sean Frost put in a very consistent drive finishing runner up to Van Beurden in all of the heats. Rory Atkinson showed signs of a very fast pace in only his second race of the year, firmly pacing his Birel in third place. Olivier Calkoen and Duke Rigway also put in strong performances in there Birels.

DD2 was difficult for Birel drivers. However Justin Allison, Ian Young, Laurent Calkoen and Eugene Britz were always amongst the protagonists.  Hopefully at the next round we can make victory ours in this class again.

The next SARMC event will be the final on 3 & 4 October. However there is one more regional qualifier before then. We look forward to the remainder of the max season.
