Zwartkops SARMC Final 3/4 October 2009

MORE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLES FOR BIREL DRIVERS

Despite some very questionable decisions regarding changing the tyres for the final event of the season, the event everyone has been waiting for has come and gone, giving Birel drivers a further two National Championship titles.

A HARE R OWENS L VENTER

The Junior Max category was a Birel dominated class with Aston Hare prevailing above the rest once again to secure his second National championship title of the year. Hare put in a flawless drive to take pole and win three of the four heats to give himself the title aboard his Birel. Despite being taken out at the start of pre-final two, Hare kept his head and went on to win the remaining heats. A superb drive once again. Rauol Owens (birel) also produced a fantastic drive to take second overall in the championship. He won pre final two just ahead of Ryan Frost (birel).

The bad luck story of the weekend must go to Liam Venter. He was looking good for second in the championship until he too was taken out of the second pre final, and was unable to finish effectively ending his championship challenge. He continued to show his formidable pace and recovered to take fourth in the championship. All in all this class proved to be extremely good for Birel drivers, with Hare and Owens both winning seats to the World Final.

S FROST R ATKINSON O CALCOEN

Another championship was won in Max Challenge by Birel driver Sean Frost. Frost never put a foot wrong the whole weekend, and stayed out of trouble to take his first National Championship title. Frost won heat one but was given a 5 place penalty for passing under yellow. In the remaining heats he consolidated his championship position by finishing in the top three to take the championship by a massive 15 points. Rory Atkinson was looking good for second in the championship until he made a slight judgment error, loosing his nose cone in the process. Olivier Calkoen had a very strong run aboard his Birel, if it weren’t for a few accidents he too would have finished higher up in the Championship standings.

D BRUMMER

Mini max was a closely fought affair, with Dewald Brummer (Birel) and Raoul Hyman fighting it out for Championship honors. Unfortunately Bummer’s championship was jeopardized by a crash in the first final. However it came down to the last heat, where Brummer and Hyman tussled all the way to the line. Hyman ended up with the championship win. Congratulations to him.

I YOUNG

DD2 was another hotly contested class. Ian Young, Justin Allison and Eugene Britz were all in the mix aboard there Birels. This class too boiled down to the last heat after Young put championship leader Williams under pressure by taking the win in final one. Williams took a gamble and borrowed an engine from a fellow competitor for final two. This engine proved to be very fast and Young and Allison could not catch Williams in final two. The championship went to Williams, followed by Young and Allison aboard there Birels. Congratulations to Williams. We are not disappointed by the result as the Birel drivers were very competitive throughout the season and the final weekend. We look forward to next years Championship in this class.

Another exciting development that came about during the weekend was the testing of our 2010 Birel frame. In the classes it was used in it won. It is the first time in history that we received a pre launch frame from Birel, and it shows there dedication to ensuring our championship contenders can win. The frame certainly shows that next year, our opposition has a serious fight on there hands.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our loyal customers for the effort they have put in , and we would like to congratulate all our Championship winners.
