ROUND 2 S A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS – IDUBE 3 JULY 2010-07-21
Birel drivers dominate seniors, unlucky in Juniors
The Idube Kart Circuit hosted round 2 of the South African National Kart Championships for the ROK categories. Idube always produces amazing racing and round 2 proved to be no exception.
For Birel drivers, it was a day of mixed fortunes.
The premier Super Rok category once again was the highlight of the day boasting an impressive grid of 25 drivers. Motorsport star, Wesley Orr decided to enter at the championship at last minute with his choice of kart being Birel. Orr posted very competitive times but some misfortunes in the race ended his challenge prematurely. However Birel ace Ian Young showed why he has the number 1 on his kart , by dominating all three heats in convincing style. Aston Hare (head 2 head Birel) showed great improvement by finishing fourth overall for the day despite some on track incidents. Championship hopeful Chad Van Beurden was always setting the pace in practise, but an unsolved mystery put him way down the order throughout the day. All in all an excellent performance by Birel drivers in this premier category.

Junior Rok racing proved to be just as exciting as the Super Rok Category. An impressive field of eighteen drivers lined up on the Kwazulu Natal hillside, all wanting to win. The lap times were so close and there were many drivers who had the pace to win. Amongst them were Birel drivers, Chad Maciver, Kelvin Van Der Linde, Nathan Parkins and many more. Maciver and Van Der Linde were set to challenge for victory until an accident between them put pay to their chances. Maciver finished in fourth, Parkins in fifth and Van Der Linde in sixth. Despite not achieving the optimum results, Birel drivers are still right in the forefront of the National Championship standings. Van Der Linde, Maciver, Parkins and Pepper have a realistic championship with Van Der Linde being one point behind championship leader Hyman.
In the Junior GP category, Birel driver Clinton Bezuidenhout pulled out all the stops to take all of the heat wins, placing himself in first position in the championship standings.
For The Kart Shoppe it is fantastic to see that no matter what track our drivers compete at, they are always a dominant force and victory is always in our grasp. We look forward to the reaming two rounds of the South African National Championship series.
