BIREL DRIVERS CONTINUE WITH 2010 DOMINANCE
The challenging Zwartkops Kart Circuit was host to round 2 of the Rok regional series which also caters for the Junior GP class and the most popular 125 GP class. Racing was once again excellent and Birel colours were once again dominant in all the classes.
Chad Maciver (Trilion Video Birel) dominated the junior Rok class by taking all three heat wins gaining the overall win for the day. New comer to the class Dewald Brummer (Harcourt’s Midstream Birel) had a very competitive first outing and managed a fifth overall for the day despite showing he was capable of a podium finish. Jordan Pepper returned to Birel colours and showed off his pace from word go, but a non start in heat one put an end to his day. Morgan McColl (Castrol Toyota Birel) had a day he would rather forget after crashing out of the first heat.
In the ever popular Super Rok Class, it was a fight between Chad Van Beurden (Beurden Construction Birel) and Ian Young (Independent Projects Birel). Van Beurden showed his class to win two of the three heats, finishing victorious for the day ahead of Young. Duke Rigway looked like he was going to make it a Birel 1,2,3 but a tangle with young cost him valuable time in the final heat. He still managed a fourth overall for the day. Liam Venter had brilliant qualifying but a first corner incident cost him dearly for the day. Some very aggressive driving saw him recover to take ninth overall. A very strong day for Birel drivers in this extremely exciting class.
125 GP had the most entries wit h24 karts taking to the track. Deon Auby and Michael Murphy gave the all new Birel cry30s2 chassis the perfect introduction by taking first and second respectively for the day. Rob Bakewell, Mitch Coetzee, Tony Baartman, Alan Thompson and Phillip Swanepoel made it seven Birel’s in the top ten. What a spectacular event it was for the 125 GP class.
In the GP Junior category, Birel driver Clinton Bezuidenhout overcame early season jitters to finish second overall just behind winner Keegan Masters.
Lucky Ramagole (Castrol Toyota Development Team) is continuing with an impressive season in the Cadette class. He took third overall behind Atlan Bouw and Wyman.
Johan Van Der Waldt also won in Birel colours in the power stock class. A very good result for him and Birel.
All in all a fantastic day with Birel drivers winning every class in which it was possible to compete. We look forward to continuing with this form in the upcoming Rotax RMC round which will also be held at Zwartkops on 24 April. |
